The inaugural Honiton v Sidmouth Battle took place on 22 March at Sidmouth. There were five print sections, with set subjects of: Creative, Landscape, Mono, Nature and Portrait, and DPI set subjects of: Angles, Fancy, Man-made, One Behind The Other and Rush Hour. Each club submitted one entry in each set subject plus 15 Open entries.
Images were awarded points out of 10 and the scoring was close throughout, with an overall result of Honiton 238 points and Sidmouth 243.5, so not a lot in it.
At the end of the print section we were level pegging at 80 points each, then picked up an extra point at the end for Andy McGarty’s “Girl in a Hat” gaining 3rd place overall in the Battle.
Our DPI’s scored a little less with Honiton 157 and Sidmouth 163.5 BUT we picked up an extra 3 points at the end for Steve Eckhardt’s “Old Lady of Kotor” which had 1st place overall and the only score of 10 all night.
The judge, Norman Marsh, was fair in his comments although as usual it was evident that there were certain things he wasn’t so keen on.
Thanks go to the hosts, Sidmouth, who were very welcoming and provided a lovely supper.
