Plant Photography, a talk by Adrian Davies -14 November 2025

We were pleased to welcome Adrian Davies, a natural history and scientific photographer, teacher and author, who gave his talk entitled “Adventures with Plant Photography”. His images covered subjects both in this country and overseas. The presentation included images and descriptions of carnivorous plants and the way in which they consume their prey, and the pollination process of other plants.

There was an emphasis on the photography of fungi, pointing out the characteristics of the various types. This was useful as fungi is one of the subjects of our February club competition!

Adrian introduced us to the types of invisible light, and, as an example gave a demonstration of UV light on a pebble using a UV torch, producing an almost sparkly effect. The images produced from such light illustrated how insects, particularly bees, see flowers in colours different from us.

A very fascinating and educational evening.
