For 20 plus years there has been a competition known as the Horseshoe Trophy, with 5 local clubs meeting face to face. This was a combination of prints and DPIs and named after the long gone Three Horseshoes pub, where they originally met. Each year the clubs took it in turns to host the competition.
For various reasons 3 of the clubs no longer want to take part, which just left ourselves and Sidmouth, so we arranged a battle based on the criteria used for the Horseshoe, which we would have hosted in 2021, had it not been affected by Covid.
There are 5 set subjects each year, which are Landscape, Mono, Portrait, Nature and Creative.
There are also 5 subjects which change from year to year. This year we have used those prepared for the 2021 event (Looking Up, Dancers/Dancing, By Moonlight, People at Work and Wheels).
There is also an open section – so in total there are 30 images from each club.
Scoring was out of 10 with additional points awarded at the end for the overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
The meeting was held via Zoom and we were pleased to welcome Stephen Womack, LRPS, CPAGB, EFIAP as our judge for this event. There were many high quality images from both clubs and Stephen gave good commentary on them all, even though we may not have always agreed with the scores awarded – but isn’t that always the way?!
The final scores were: Honiton 231; Sidmouth 259
The top three images were:-
1st – “Snow on the Beach” – Suzanne Parsons, Sidmouth
2nd – “Kite Surfer” – Tony Spooner, Sidmouth
3rd – “Small Copper on Eryngium” – Claire Fry, Honiton.
Congratulations to Sidmouth and to the individual winners, and thanks to all those who had entered images.
